To the new web site of Atlantic Insurance Brokers SL, (an SL is similar to a UK Limited Company).

The Company was formed in 2006 with the intention of assisting all English speaking expatriates with interests in Fuerteventura, to arrange Insurances they can understand.

The web pages here explain not just about our Insurers but we have also added information that you may find useful – we hope they help.

The information we have provided is only a guide, as procedures and the understanding and appliance of laws appear to differ from the mainland to here and unfortunately even to different Ayuntomientos!

Our Insurers

We act as Agents for Ibex Insurance who are based in Gibraltar and Cadiz/ Malaga. Ibex are the principal Agent for amongst others Lloyd’s of London.

Lloyd’s of London or simply “Lloyd’s” as it is known is a British Insurance Market, which began in 1688 in Edward Lloyd’s coffee house in Tower Street, London where ship-owners, sailors and Merchants met to obtain shipping news. Amongst this community they decided to share the risks of each other and under each venture they write their name and the share of the risk they wished to participate in.

Gradually experts became involved that would write for a number of names. To this day these people are called Underwriters and those individuals are called names. As the business expanded the coffee shop moved to Lombard Street in 1688 and in 1774 to the Royal Exchange as The Society of Lloyd’s. The Society of Lloyd's was incorporated by Lloyd's Act 1871.

Lloyd’s has become famous over the years as being innovative, underwriting some unusual policies for example Betty Grable’s legs, Keith Richard’s fingers, Celine Dion’s voice  and even Space ships.

We also use other UK insurers who specialise in areas such as travel or medical insurance.
